HCAI rolled out a menu of new service codes and attributes to record services, provided by health care companies and providers in virtual or remote settings. These codes and attributes are incorporated in Skedulex Case Management Software for easy and efficient submission of OCFs to HCAI and to do HCAI billing.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced health care providers to change their mode of operation, providing services to clients, adding multiple virtual and remote services to their offering. The codes provide HCAI with the ability to monitor and understand the use of these services. These codes apply to all OCF’s except the OCF23 and Form 1 as these forms do not have attribute fields.
HCAI also provided a “learning module to make health care facilities aware that attribute codes could be applied to individual services on an OCF and to indicate if it was delivered remotely or virtually.” Further HCAI provided a comprehensive set of information Virtual Services: A Guide for Health Care Facilities. This information release addressed all aspects of using the new codes along with a step-by-step guide that shows you how your facility should use and view the attribute codes for individual services and services within a session. Additional information can be found on the HCAI website, more specifically on HCAI coding page.
“In a time when many businesses have moved to a virtual workspace, HCAI understands it can be challenging to signal or determine if a health service or assessment is delivered remotely. Here are some quick tips to help providers and insurers identify remote services on an OCF.” See this HCAI link for further guidance on the requirement and use of codes for providing Virtual services.
COVID restrictions in provinces across Canada have forced therapists to adopt a remote mode of delivering services to their clients. The various colleges have provided additional guidelines relating to the provision of essential services. Therapists are advised to contact their colleges or association for further information and guidance.
